All About Lost Lake
Surrounded by lush evergreen forests and spectacular mountain views, Lost Lake is a secluded lake near Whistler, British Columbia, Canada which is an internationally known top ski resort area.
Until 1877, the area around Lost Lake was occupied for centuries by the Coast Salish First Nations. In 1877, the area was opened to settlements and soon a steady flow of trappers and prospectors traveled into the majestic snow covered mountains and fertile valleys to seek their fortune. Soon the area became known as a superior fly-fishing location and lodges were soon built to accommodate eager anglers. With road and transportation improvements, the recreational value of the mountains was soon developed with first ski lift in 1966. In 1975, the community of Whistler was recognized as the first resort municipality in Canada.
Lost Lake Park is Whistler’s largest park. Trails of all difficulty levels meander around the lake and are used for cross country skiing and snow shoeing during the winter and walking, rollerblading, biking, and dog walking during the warmer months. In fact, the park and Lost Lake are so dog friendly there is a beach area for unleashed dogs called “Canine Cove” complete with a special doggy dock ramp. People friendly too, the park includes sandy beaches, grassy areas, bathhouse, concession area, and splendid views of Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountains. Stocked annually with trout, anglers use canoes, pontoon boats or float tubes to fish for rainbow trout and bull trout.
Located in the Vancouver Coast and Mountains tourism region in southwestern Canada, a short walk from Lost Lake will take you to the nearby town of Whistler. A pedestrian friendly town, residents and visitors can walk to shopping, bars, restaurants, and a wide range of vacation rentals from timeshares, log homes, hotels, condos, townhouses, chalets, camping and RV parks with a plan to fit most budgets. Real estate is prime for those wishing to own a piece of the fun and action. When the sun goes down and you have expended energy either with tennis, golf, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, or cycling, the Whistler’s nightlife sparkles and beckons to you to relax and enjoy as people flock to the local pubs and restaurants to feast on the local cuisine and colorful nightlife.
Lost Lake and Whistler are surrounded by natural wonders and beauty. Just a short ride from Whistler is the world’s highest concentration of bald eagles where lucky spectators can watch as the eagles swoop down into the Squamish River to catch fresh salmon in their sharp talons. More awe inspiring nature can be appreciated at hiking trails through the Emerald Forest and the Rainbow Wetlands Conservation Area where you can participate in heli-skiing, heli-hiking, ice climbing, paragliding, bungee jumping, white water rafting and high gondola rides. The Garibaldi Provincial Park with its 481,000 acres of undeveloped mountain wilderness will provide a true back country experience with campgrounds, cabins, and shelters throughout the park and along the trails.
