Logan Martin Lake, Alabama, USA
Also known as: Lake Logan Martin
Logan Martin Lake, located about 30 miles east of Birmingham in east central Alabama, is a 15,263-acre reservoir popular for boating, fishing, and other recreational pursuits. Alabama Power began construction of the Logan Martin Dam across the Coosa River in 1960. When completed in 1964, Logan Martin Lake began creating hydroelectric power for the region. Though power generation and flood control are the primary purposes of Logan Martin Lake, the reservoir has long served as one of the area’s most-loved vacation destinations.
Logan Martin Lake stretches almost 49 miles along the Coosa River, flowing from the Neely Henry Dam to the north to the Logan Martin Dam to the south. With 275 miles of shoreline, there are countless coves to explore. Water levels fluctuate only about five feet between summer pool and winter pool. Homes dot the shoreline, with Pell City just a few miles from the lake. Pell City was a 19th century mill village; today the town is popular with anglers, artists, and antique collectors.
Fishing on Logan Martin Lake is exciting and promising; it is well-known as one of the best spotted bass fishing lakes in the country. Logan Martin Lake is home to spectacular blue catfish, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, flathead catfish, hybrid bass, largemouth bass, longear sunfish, redear sunfish, saltwater stripe, striped bass, and white bass.
