Located in the beautiful rolling hills of northwest Wisconsin, Red Cedar Lake in Barron County welcomes everyone to come for a visit in any season for outdoor recreation and relaxation. The middle lake in a chain of three connected and navigable lakes that includes Balsam Lake and Hemlock Lake, Red Cedar Lake is by far the largest at 1,841 acres.
Many people have purchased real estate surrounding Red Cedar Lake to build lakefront homes, vacation getaways, or retirement destinations. The lake community includes many great assets such as a beach club, swimming pool and community center. Public boat launches allow access to the lake for visitors to enjoy boating, jet skiing, swimming, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing. Known as one of the top walleye lakes in Barron County, anglers can also try their luck for smallmouth bass, northern pike, largemouth bass, muskellunge, bluegill, pumpkinseed, black crappie, yellow perch, rock bass, bullheads, and cisco. During the cold icy months typical of the Northwoods of Wisconsin, ice fishing keeps anglers busy baiting their hooks, while others enjoy the pristine beauty of the snow by cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling on and around the frozen lake.
Barron County boasts that it has something for everyone, including more than 360 other lakes in addition to Red Cedar Lake. The geography of the county was formed millions of years ago by roaming glaciers during the Ice Age which left this region with rolling farm land, flowing rivers, and clear streams and lakes. Its thickly wooded areas are a bird watcher’s paradise with nesting mallards, wood ducks, loons, woodpeckers, osprey and bald eagles. Other wildlife both big and small roam the area and can be viewed in their natural habitats.
With three large rivers flowing through the land, in addition to the many lakes, floaters, boaters, fishermen, and rafters flock to the area to challenge the water. For golfers, the county is home to a Golf Digest “Four Star Course” in addition to numerous other challenging courses. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails during the warm weather months double as trails for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing during the snowy months; the area also offers two downhill skiing areas. Shopping venues, a casino, local festivals, old fashioned park bandstands with live music, local theatre productions, and art and history museums provide diversions to outdoor recreation. Barron County offers vacation rentals to fit most budgets including family housekeeping cottages and cabins condos, luxurious lakeside homes, plus lodges, romantic bed and breakfast inns, campgrounds, RV parks, and a casino hotel.
