Nestled between Chicago and Detroit in the heart of southwest Michigan’s wine country, Eagle Lake is the perfect home base for exploring the area’s wineries and antique shops.

Eagle Lake is a spring fed, all sports lake in Van Buren County. The lake has a maximum depth of 60 feet and a surface area of almost 200 acres for motor boating, canoeing, and kayaking. White sand beaches ring the lake, making it a great lake for swimming and families. Public access to the lake is from a gravel boat ramp. Eagle Lake is full of fish, and anglers can expect to find abundant populations of bluegill and largemouth bass.

Cottages and vacation rentals are tucked into the trees that ring Eagle Lake’s shoreline. For visitors who fall in love with the lake, real estate is available for sale. Eagle Lake is slightly southwest of the Village of Paw Paw. Both the village and the river of the same name get their name from the paw paw fruit that grew all along the river. Van Buren’s county seat, Paw Paw, is surrounded with agriculture fields and vineyards. The charming village has beautiful historic architecture, quaint antique shops, and a variety of accommodations. After a morning spent rummaging for treasure at one of Paw Paw’s flea markets, visitors can choose from a number of restaurants for lunch. Then it is just a short drive back to Eagle Lake to spend the rest of the day playing on the water. Winter in Van Buren County offers ample recreation opportunities with slopes for downhill skiing and snow boarding along with trails for cross country skiing and snowmobiles.

It is a short drive from Eagle Lake to Kalamazoo to the northeast. The largest city in southwest Michigan, Kalamazoo has museums, shops and any amenity or cultural opportunity a visitor might need. Paw Paw has vineyards, and Kalamazoo has a variety of microbreweries. Lake Michigan is also an easy day trip from Eagle Lake. With its iconic lighthouses and rich maritime history, Lake Michigan is a great place to explore the legacy of the Great Lakes.

Surrounded by southwest Michigan’s pastoral agricultural fields and vineyards, Eagle Lake is a beautiful, rejuvenating destination. Add the exceptionally clean, clear water and abundant fishing, and Eagle Lake becomes a fantastic recreation getaway. After relaxing on the lake’s white sand beaches, visitors who prefer more culture can slip away for a day in Kalamazoo. A trip to Eagle Lake offers something to please everyone.
