These glacial lakes are nestled in the Lake Superior Northwoods Region of Wisconsin and have shorelines that are encircled with towering pines and hardwood forests.

Forest County, the home of Crane Lake, is a premier vacation destination. In addition to several lakes, the area offers an assortment of fine restaurants, resorts and campgrounds. Although the shoreline of Crane Lake is largely undeveloped, occasional vacation rentals are available to lucky visitors. Real estate offerings are not abundant, but lake homes and building lots are occasionally available to visitors who decide to make Crane Lake their permanent home.

Visitors can soak in the sun as they spend hours canoeing, paddle boating, fishing and swimming in the refreshing waters of Crane Lake. Crane Lake reaches a depth of 25 feet and makes an excellent habitat for fish. On a good day, anglers are sure to catch panfish which are abundant in Crane Lake, and may even catch northern pike, walleye and largemouth bass. Visitors of Crane Lake will also want to take a boat ride across the channel to Pickerel Lake where they can indulge in additional water activities. Pickerel, Wisconsin is also well known for its snowmobile clubs and offers some of the best snowmobile trails in the state. Winter also provides the perfect elements for cross country skiing, ice fishing, and snowshoeing.

Located adjacent to Crane Lake is the Nicolet National Forest, a nature lover’s wonderland. From vivid fall colors to snowy white winters, Nicolet National Forest is a breathtaking retreat in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Hiking, horseback riding, fishing, canoeing and hunting are favorite activities. Visitors can camp anywhere in the forest as long it is not within 50 feet of a trail or water. When the weather turns cold, cross country skiing and snowmobiling are what outdoor enthusiasts enjoy at Nicolet National Forest. For those who take pleasure in nature from the comfort of their vehicles, more than 3,000 miles of back roads are available to experience the beauty of the forest.

Adventure seekers may take some time for rafting on the Wolf River, located in the nearby Langlade County. Wolf River is well known for its excellent whitewater rafting. For those who desire less adventure, tubing is available on the calmer sections of the Wolf River. Roasting marshmallows around a blazing campfire is the perfect end to the day.
