All About Brandy Lake, WI

Hundreds of lakes are located in the Northwoods region of Wisconsin, and Brandy Lake is among these aquatic gems. Although Brandy Lake is small, covering about 110 acres, it is big on recreational possibilities. Summer months find visitors cooling off by taking a refreshing swim or hiking in the woods, while winter months are filled with endless cold weather activities that include snow skiing, snowmobiling, and ice skating.

Brandy Lake is known for excellent fishing and is often a hosting lake for fishing tournaments. Whether fishing from the shore or from a boat, anglers can count on catches of muskie, northern pike, bluegill, largemouth bass and walleye. Ice fishing is popular during the winter. With a snowmobile trail running through Brandy Lake, anglers are sure to find the right spot to fish.

Brandy Lake, located in Vilas County north of Minocqua and Woodruff, has the added feature of nearby parks for more outdoor fun. Brandy Lake Park offers ice skating in the winter, while summer visitors take pleasure in a nice swimming beach with lifeguards. Minocqua Winter Park provides visitors with 47 miles (75 kilometers) of groomed trails covering 6,500 acres for hiking and biking during warm weather and snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and sledding during the winter.

Brandy Lake is surrounded by pine and hardwood trees. To the north, south, and east of Brandy Lake is the Northern Highland/American Legion State Forest. This forest is an outdoor enthusiast’s year round playground: a cool retreat in the summer for biking, hiking or nature observing, and a fun environment for snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Water sports are a favorite pastime in the dense forest due to the many lakes that are nestled in the shade of the trees. Water sports include fishing, swimming, waterskiing, boating and canoeing. Campsites are plentiful in the Northern Highland/American Legion State Forest and offer primitive and modern non-electric sites. Remote campsites are also available and are referred to as Canonist Campsites due to the fact they can only be reached by water. Hunters, who have obtained a permit from Trout Lake Headquarters, have the additional benefit of special primitive camping during hunting season.

Not only is Brandy Lake a great place to vacation, it is also a wonderful place to live. Real estate as well as vacation rentals are plentiful along the shoreline where lakeside views provide a breathtaking retreat after a day filled with play. Visitors to Brandy Lake can find everything from resorts to cozy cabins where they can soak in the peacefulness of their surroundings.
